Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican softball team recorded its program's 800th victory in route to a split against GLIAC leading Wayne State on Friday afternoon.
The Panthers (12-34, 8-16 GLIAC) won their 800th program victory with the 5-1 win in the second game of the doubleheader, ending the Warriors (34-16, 18-3 GLIAC) 16 game winning streak.
In the 31 year history of ODU softball, the program has accumulated an 800-678-5 record, well enough for a .541 winning percentage.
Senior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, OH) recorded two hits in three at-bats during the opening game. Freshman Taylor Kline (Bellville, OH) and sophomore Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, OH) each logged a two hit game in the second half of the doubleheader.
Freshman Alex Jander (Gahanna, OH) would allow just one run in a complete game victory, allowing just a total of three hits. Jander improved her record to a team best, 4-1 on the season.
After not scoring in the opening game, the Panthers scored twice in the top of the first in game two. Sophomore Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, WI) would start the two-out rally with a double to left center. After a Thomas intentional walk, junior Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, OH) would single to left field, driving in both runs after an error by the Warriors.
Wayne State would answer in the bottom half with one run, as ODU lead 2-1 after the opening inning.
Senior Brandis Fishel (Gahanna, OH) would leadoff the fourth inning with a double, and Hinton would follow with a single to put runners on the corners for ODU.
Junior Brier Sanner (Hartville, OH) would double to left center as she drove in both runs to give ODU a 4-1 lead.
Sanner would then later score on a single from Kline down the left field line to give the Panthers the 5-1 advantage.
Jander would not allow a hit over the final four innings, preserving the milestone victory for the Black and Gold.
ODU would allow runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings in the opening game, falling 4-0. The Panthers would record three hits in the game, two coming from Thomas and one coming from senior Devan Audette (Bronson, MI).
The Panthers will look to record wins 801 and 802 on Saturday as they host Saginaw Valley State on Senior Day at Panther Field. The conference doubleheader is now scheduled to start at 10 a.m. instead of the original time of 1 p.m. due to concerns with the weather forecast in the afternoon.
