Panthers Drop Two at Home Against Walsh

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican softball team returned home for a GLIAC doubleheader with Walsh, after eight consecutive roads, but fell twice on Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers (7-31, 3-13 GLIAC) and the Cavaliers (16-7, 11-4 GLIAC) were originally scheduled to play at Panther Field last Wednesday, but due to weather, the games were postponed until today.

In the opening game, the Panthers would allow six runs through the first three innings to fall in an early 6-0 hole. Walsh, led by pitcher Casi Rohr, allowed just one hit to ODU, as she faced just one batter over the minimum.

ODU would get lead off baserunners in both the fourth and fifth innings, but were unable to scratch across any runs. Freshman Taylor Kline (Bellville, OH) would lead off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to right field and senior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, OH) would walk to start the bottom of the fifth.

The Cavaliers would add three more runs in the sixth inning to take the first contest by a final score of 9-0.

In the second game, the Panther would score in the first inning for the 16th time this season, and they would take the first lead of the game for the 14th time.

ODU would get back-to-back singles, with one out, from junior Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, OH) and sophomore Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, WI).

Thomas would then follow with a double to drive in Albanese. Senior Brandis Fishel (Gahanna, OH) would add another single to score Wallace, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

After Walsh was held scoreless in the bottom of the first inning, the Panthers added two more runs in the second. Senior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, OH) and Kline would each single then each steal a base to put two runners in scoring position.

Albanese would then double to right center to bring home both runs. The Cavaliers would score one run in the bottom half of the inning, as the Panthers took a 4-1 lead after two innings.

Walsh would add one run in the third, and four unearned runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-4 advantage.

After Kline and Albanese singled, there would be runners on the corners in the top of the sixth inning. As Albanese was caught stealing, Kline would advance home to cut the Walsh lead to 6-5.

ODU however, would garner just one more hit in the final two innings, dropping the second contest by a final score of 6-5.

Kline finished the day 3-for-7 at the plate, scoring two runs, and has extended her current hitting streak to six games.

The Panthers would also receive three hits in the second game from Fishel, and both Albanese and Wallace also recorded multi-hit games in the second half of the doubleheader.

The Black and Gold will look to bounce back right away as they travel to Hillsdale for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
