Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Ohio Dominican softball team dropped two games during the NTC Spring Games on Sunday evening to Winona State and Mary.
The Panthers (0-12) dropped the opening game of the evening to Winona State (9-1) who came in ranked 16th nationally. Mary would improve to 9-13 on the season after picking up two wins on Sunday.
After conceding two runs to Mary in the first inning of game two, the Panthers would add one run to trail 2-1 at the conclusion of two innings. ODU would score after sophomore Casey Murdoch (Morrow, OH) walked and then scored three batters later on a RBI from junior Brier Sanner (Hartville, OH).
Then after allowing two more runs in the top of the third, the Black and Gold would score three in the bottom half to tie the game 4-4 after three innings. After a Taylor Kline (Bellville, OH) walk and Liz Sutter (Mansfield, OH) reaching on a fielder's choice, Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, OH) would hit a three run home run to tie the game.
The Marauders would answer however with a run in the top of the fourth inning to regain the lead at 5-4. The score would remain the same going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Down to their last three outs, the Panthers would start the inning with a walk from senior Alex Cribari (Lyndhurst, OH) and a single from Kline to get runners on first and second base. That however, would be the only two Panthers to reach base successfully as they would fall 5-4.
Kline would get on base in all four plate appearances recording two singles and two walks. She has now tied her longest hitting streak of the season, recording at least one base hit in four consectuvie games. With her four RBI on the day, Hinton now has 11 on the season.
In the first game the Panthers scored two runs in the opening inning for the second time in three games. ODU received runs from Kline and Hinton.
Winona State would score three runs in the bottom half of inning number two, to take a 3-2 lead. The Warriors would add one run in the fifth and three in the sixth to secure the 7-2 victory over the Panthers.
Kline and Hinton would record two of ODU's five hits. Murdoch, Sanner, and sophomore Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, WI), would record the other hits for the Panthers. Wallace had a hit in four consecutive games before failing to reach base against Mary.
ODU will have Monday off, as they will be back on the diamond again Tuesday for games against Wilmington (DE) and East Stroudsburg.
