Box Score 1 CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Ohio Dominican softball team suffered two setbacks on Saturday as they fell to No. 23 West Virginia Wesleyan and Truman State.
After dropping both games of a double header to Charleston (W.V.) on Friday night, the Panthers (0-10) were unable to record their first win, losing to their second nationally ranked opponent this season in WVWU (1-0), as well as, the team which defeated ODU in the NCAA tournament a season ago in Truman (4-3).
In the first game, ODU jumped out to a quick start offensively scoring two runs in the top half of the opening inning off back to back RBI doubles from Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, OH) and Taylor Thomas (Bellville, OH). The Bobcats, however, would answer in the bottom half of the inning as they tied the score 2-2 through one.
The Panthers would receive a home run from sophomore Casey Murdoch (Morrow, OH) in the second inning and a RBI single from sophomore Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, WI) in the third, as they held a 4-3 advantage through three innings.
The score remained intact until the Bobcats would score nine runs in the bottom half of the fifth to take the 12-4 victory.
In the second contest of the day the Panthers shut out Truman for six out of the seven innings, but gave up seven runs in the second. Senior Brandis Fishel (Gahanna, OH) and Murdoch combined to pitch 5.1 innings, giving up just four hits and no runs in relief.
Freshman Taylor Kline (Bellville, OH) and Wallace each went 2-of-3 at the plate to lead the Panthers. Also adding hits for ODU were juniors Lizzy Weber (Canton, OH) and Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, OH).
ODU will play Winona State at 5 p.m. tomorrow before playing Mary at 7 p.m. in part of their spring break trip in Florida.
