Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team was limited to 12 total hits as No. 24 Ashland swept by a GLIAC doubleheader by scores of 5-4 and 5-1 under brisk, gray conditions at Panther Valley.
With the setbacks, ODU fell to 10-8 (2-4 GLIAC), while the Eagles moved to 15-7 (4-2). The two teams will complete the four game series with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Monday at Panther Valley.
ODU fell behind 5-0 in the first game and had a late rally come up shy. Senior Marcus Schluessler (Zanesville, Ohio) got ODU on the board with an RBI single in the third and junior Colman Fitzgerald (Centerville, Ohio) launched the first pitch of the fourth inning over the wall to make it 5-2.
Sophomore Tony Evans (Medway, Ohio) then tripled to left center with Schluessler and Kyle Suminski (Fraser, Mich.) aboard in the fifth to draw the Panthers to within 5-4, but the final seven batters were retired in order to end the game in Ashland's favor.
Suminski and Evans each had two hits, but the Panthers managed just two additional hits in the contest.
Senior Alberto Canales (West Park, Fla.) was tagged with the loss after yielding three earned runs in 5.2 innings
Ashland again jumped out to an early lead in game two, scoring the first four runs of the game in the opening two frames.
