Box Score 2 INDIANAPOLIS -- The Ohio Dominican softball team was unable to record a victory in a non-conference doubleheader at No. 12 Indianapolis on Wednesday.
The Panthers, who took a break from the early conference portion of their schedule, fall to 4-20 overall on the season. The Greyhounds have now won four straight contests, improving to 20-6 overall.
Freshman Taylor Kline (Bellville, OH) continued her streak of reaching base safely, as it is now up to 15 consecutive games. Kline finished the day with a team high four hits, including a 3-for-4 performance in the opening game.
Sophomore Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, OH) added to her conference leading RBI total, adding two in the second game. Hinton also added her second home run of the season.
Senior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, OH) also homered in game two, as she now hit a ball over the fence in three of the last four games. Thomas now has 17 RBI on the season, falling four behind Hinton's team high 21.
Senior Brandis Fishel (Gahanna, OH) pitched a combined 6.2 innings in the two games today, allowing just two earned runs on 10 hits. Fishel started the second game going 3.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits, striking out two batters.
Freshman Alex Jander (Gahanna, OH) pitched two scoreless innings in game two, allowing just one hit. Jander has now gone the past two appearances with not allowing a run, a stretch which covers 3.2 innings, allowing just the three hits.
The Panthers led for most of the second game as they jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. Hinton would hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, which would score Kline, who singled earlier in the inning. Thomas then homered to left center in the next at-bat to give ODU the 2-0 advantage.
UIndy would add one run in the second inning to cut the lead to 2-1, but a combined pitching effort between Fishel and Jander kept the Greyhounds scoreless after that until the sixth inning.
Hinton would hit the second Panther home run of the day in the top of the fifth inning as the ball sailed over the centerfield fence to grow the Panther lead to 3-1.
The Greyhounds, however, would stringed together five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring three runs to come from behind and steal game two by a final count of 4-3.
In the first game the Panthers would fall behind by a score of 6-0 after giving up three runs in both the second and third innings.
ODU would score its first run of the game in the top half of the fourth inning. The Panthers would receive back-to-back walks from Hinton and Thomas, followed by a single from Albanese to load the bases. Senior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, OH) would then foul out to right field, which would score Albanese.
The Black and Gold would add another run in the top of the seventh, when Kline would log a RBI single, which scored sophomore Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, WI). This however, would be the finally tally the Panthers could add, falling 7-2.
ODU will look to get back on track this weekend, as they host Lake Superior State for a GLIAC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
