Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a rematch of the 2014 GLIAC Championship, the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team ended its season with a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Grand Valley State on the road Friday night in the conference tournament semifinals.
The Panthers conclude their season with an overall mark of 10-9-0, posting an 8-4-0 record in GLIAC regular season games. ODU has now won at least 10 matches in nine consecutive seasons, including all seven under head coach Jonathan Meade.
Capping off her record breaking career was senior Lauren Pratt (West Chester, OH) as she led the Panthers with two shot attempts. The 2015 First Team All-GLIAC selection finished her stint with ODU appearing in more matches than anyone in program history at 77. She also sits third in school history with 19 assists, and is tied for third in points, 71, and goals, 26.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Harris (Mason, OH) made a career high 13 saves in the contest as she faced 16 Laker shots on goal. ODU was outshot 37-6, as the 37 shots is the most a Panther team has allowed during the Division II era and the most in program history during a postseason contest.
In her final match of her career, senior Summer Bourcier (Mansfield, OH) posted one shot attempt, as she, along with senior Jessica Gross (Dayton, OH) each started for the Black and Gold. Both Gross and Bourcier were named to All-GLIAC squads with Gross being honored as a second team member and Bourcier being selected to the honorable mention team.
2015 GLIAC Player of the Year Marti Corby started the scoring for GVSU as she scored on a free kick just outside the 18 yard box in the 27th minute. The Panthers and Lakers would be locked in a stalemate for the remainder of the half as the ODU deficit was 1-0 at the intermission.
Less than three minutes into second half play, GVSU added the second goal of the match with Kendra Stauffer getting behind two ODU defenders as her shot was deflected in off a save attempt from Harris. The Lakers added another insurance goal in the closing minutes to defeat the Panthers 3-0 for the second time this season.
Meade was proud of the effort his team gave tonight, "I am very proud of the team for how hard they battled tonight. They were led by an amazing group of seniors and no matter the result, we left it all on the field."
With the victory, the Lakers (18-1-0, 12-0-0 GLIAC) have now advanced in 21 straight GLIAC Tournament games, as they will have a chance to win their ninth straight tournament championship on Sunday.
On the year, the Panthers scored 31 goals and posted 27 assists. The assist amount was just four short of tying a school record for most in a season. This was the second consecutive season that ODU posted over 300 total shot attempts, as they fired a total of 306 in 2015.
