Box Score BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – In a match between two teams in the top three of the GLIAC, Ohio Dominican women's soccer fell late on the road Sunday afternoon to Ferris State, 2-1.
The Panthers (9-7-0, 8-3-0 GLIAC) are still in a tie for third in the conference with Ashland, but with a loss by Northern Michigan, ODU has locked a home quarterfinal match in the GLIAC Tournament.
Trailing 1-0 in the second half, the Panthers tied the match at 68:08, as senior Lauren Pratt (West Chester, OH) scored her fifth goal of the season. Junior Kelly Johnson (Berea, OH) recorded the assist on ODU's lone goal of the match.
With the score tied at 1-1 for most of the second period, the Bulldogs (13-3-1, 9-1-1 GLIAC) were able find the back of the net with just three minutes remaining in regulation to take a 2-1 advantage. The Panthers would threaten late as they posted two corner kicks, but were unable to fire off any shots as they fell just short of sending the match to overtime.
ODU held a 23-18 advantage in shots, while also getting the better opportunities with a 13-10 lead in shots on goal. Pratt paced the Panthers with five shot attempts, with four coming on target.
Senior Summer Bourcier (Mansfield, OH), along with junior Emily Riviello (Huber Heights, OH) each posted three shot attempts, and combined for three shots on goal. Freshmen Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, OH) and Meghan Martella (Cincinnati, OH), and sophomore Allison Pavlik (Cortland, OH) also posted multiple shot attempts.
The Black and Gold also held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks, and each side was also booked for one yellow card.
ODU will close out the regular season with a matchup with Ashland at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 30, at Panther Stadium. The match will be for the third seed in the conference tournament, and will be a Benefit Match for Ashland head coach Danny Krispinsky, who was diagnosed with liver and colon cancer earlier this season.
