COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team celebrated senior night with a 2-1 victory over Lake Erie as their five seniors took the field for one of their last matches in Panther Stadium.
After a goal apiece from both teams within the first 45 minutes of play, the Panthers (9-6, 8-2 GLIAC) rallied behind a goal from freshman Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, OH) who found the back of the net off a free kick from senior Lauren Pratt (West Chester, OH).
Seniors Jordan Ashby (Zanesville, OH) and Kelsey Baird (Maineville, OH) made their first starts of the season for the Black in Gold. Other seniors that were honored before the game for ODU were Pratt, Jessica Gross (Dayton, OH) and Summer Bourcier (Mansfield, OH).
Pratt, who is tied for second on the team with four goals this season, shined throughout the game, assisting on both goals. The first of these assists came in the 19th minute when Pratt attempted a free kick that was blocked and then put in by Allison Pavlik (Cortland, OH) for a 1-0 lead.
Lake Erie (3-11-2, 1-8-2 GLIAC) followed Pavlik's effort with a goal in the 40th minute, tying the game just before halftime. The game then remained tied until D'Isadoro's goal as both Panther goals were a result of set-piece plays.
With 31 shot attempts on the night, the Panthers toppled their shots-per-game average by 14. Prior to tonight, ODU's most shots attempted came in a 6-1 win against Malone in which they had 25 attempts. Pavlik led the team with a career-high 11 shots while posting a team-high six shots on goal and D'Isadoro followed with five total attempts.
While shots were fired away on the offensive side of the field, the Panthers were anchored down on the defensive end by freshman Marissa Wierzbicki (Columbus, OH) who made two saves, improving her record between the pipes to 5-3-0 in eight starts.
With the victory the Panthers are tied for third in the GLIAC standings which keeps them in the running to host a quarterfinal matchup in the conference tournament. The win also puts ODU just a point behind Ferris State who currently sits at number two in the conference.
The Panthers now move onto a showdown with Ferris State when they head up north to face the Bulldogs at 12 p.m. this Sunday, October 25.
