Football Looks To Start New Win Streak As Lake Erie Comes To Columbus For Homecoming

FULL RELEASE IN PDF | PANTHERS DAILY PODCAST | WALSH HIGHLIGHTS

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Following a 19-10 victory over Walsh, Ohio Dominican remains at Panther Stadium this week for its Homecoming game against Lake Erie at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Despite being outgained 439-326 by the Cavaliers and surrendering 28 first downs, the Panthers made the big plays when they needed to and walked off with the nine point win.

ODU forced three turnovers, including a critical interception by Marquise Tyus (Lakewood, Ohio) in the waning minutes, and limited Walsh to just one touchdown in four red zone trips.

This was the first time since October 8, 2011 at Hillsdale that the Panthers were outgained by more than 100 yards and still came away with a win.

Tyus' interception was his third of the year, which leads the GLIAC and ranks seventh nationally, and he also made seven tackles. Cameron Kohl (Hilliard, Ohio) made a team-high 10 tackles and Paul Wesselhoeft (Logan, Ohio) had 1.5 sacks and 2.0 tackles for loss. Brad McCurdy (Columbus, Ohio) had seven tackles, recovered a fumble and broke up a career-high three passes to also lead the defense.

Casey Williams (Nashport, Ohio) had his first collegiate 100-yard receiving game, totaling 111 yards on a team-best six grabs with a touchdown. He had long receptions of 39 and 26 yards on the afternoon.

Dez Stewart (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 62 yards receiving and JT McFarland (Zanesville, Ohio) added 50 yards on five grabs, while Darryl Johnson (Mason, Ohio) finished with 50 yards on the ground.

Grant Russell (Newark, Ohio) completed 17 passes for 233 yards and was not intercepted on the day.

Stewart ranks fourth in the GLIAC in all-purpose yards per game (140.0) and continues to climb ODU's all-time receiving list, needing just 162 yards to become ODU's all-time leading receiver.

This week, ODU's defense will be challenged by a Lake Erie offense that ranks 17th in the nation in total yards at 501.0 yards per game. The Storm averages 261.2 yards per game on the ground and 239.8 yards passing per game.
