Bidwell's Strong Start Helps Panthers Split at Malone

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CANTON, Ohio – Despite managing just six hits, Ohio Dominican's baseball team split a Wednesday GLIAC doubleheader at Malone, recovering from a 5-2 setback in the opener to score a 7-2 victory in game two.

The Panthers capitalized on three Pioneer errors in the nightcap and received a strong start from junior Ryan Bidwell (Syracuse, N.Y.) to move to 16-14 (6-9 GLIAC) on the season, while Malone is now 15-17 (10-7).

Bidwell tossed 6.1 innings and allowed just one earned run. He struck out five in improving to 2-2 on the season.

ODU scored four times in the second inning, as junior Ronn Bidwell (Syracuse, N.Y.) smacked a two-run double and freshman Kyle Burson (Brunswick, Ohio) had an RBI single. Burson later came in to score on Malone's second error of the inning to give the Panthers a 4-0 advantage.

The lead stretched to 7-0 in the third. Sophomore Ian Huss (Springboro, Ohio) and Ronn Bidwell each had sacrifice flies, and Malone's third error of the game allowed senior Bryan Rudolph (Pickerington, Ohio) to score as well.

That was more enough for Ryan Bidwell, who worked around a bases-loaded jam in the first to keep Malone off the scoreboard until the sixth inning.

Burson went 2-for-2 and Ronn Bidwell had a career-best three RBI in the victory.

The Panthers were limited to just one hit in the opener, committed two errors and issued eight walks in suffering the 5-2 defeat.

Malone scored single runs in the second and third frames before ODU tied it at 2-2 in the sixth. Seniors Drew Ryan (Newark, Ohio) and Jossue Delgado (Barinas, Venezuela) each walked, then came in to score on a two-out throwing error to knot the game.

However, Malone scored three runs in the bottom of the inning – all with two outs – to go back in front, and the Panthers went down in order in the seventh to suffer the setback.

Ohio Dominican remains on the road for a 2 p.m. contest at Lake Erie on Thursday.
