MIDLAND, Mich. – A wild finish allowed the Ohio Domincian softball team to split a doubleheader with Northwood on Wednesday afternoon. Northwood took game one 6-4 while the Panthers rallied back in the bottom of the seventh in the second game to win 7-6.

In game one, the Timberwolves capitalized on a Panther error to take an early 2-0 lead.

The Panthers responded in the top of third, scoring four runs on four hits. Sophomore Montana Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) hit a one out single up the middle, which was followed by a single by senior Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, W. Va.). Junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) loaded the bases with a walk and freshman Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, Ohio) capitalized with a grand slam, a first for the season.

In the bottom of the third, Northwood came back to go ahead 5-4, scoring three runs, two of which were unearned.

The Timberwolves limited ODU to just two hits for the remaining innings while adding on their final run in the bottom of the sixth.

In the nightcap, Sam Zaborowski singled to center field in the first inning to score Ashley Lynn to give the Timberwolves an early 1-0 lead. Junior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio) hit her second career homerun to even the score 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

ODU took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third thanks to timely hitting. Jividen doubled to left field and scored on a single by Thomas. Thomas scored on a failed pickoff attempt and Hinton scored on a double by Seeds.

Northwood matched the Panthers three runs in the fourth to even the score thanks to a three-RBI homerun by Natalie Lampman.

After scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, the Panthers found themselves down 6-4 with three outs to go.

Hinton laced a one out double to left center to start the rally. Sophomore Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio) walked to put runners on first and second with just one out. Seeds singled to right field to knock in Hinton and move Albanese to third to make the score 6-5. Albanese scored to knot the score 6-6 on a singled by Cribari, and a double steal by Seeds and Cribari put the winning run on third. Junior Rachael Stanzel (Angleton, Texas) knocked in the winning run on a single to left to give the Panthers the 7-6 win.

Ohio Dominican will stay on the road tomorrow, April 17 for a conference doubleheader with Ferris State starting at 3:30 p.m.
