Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team stayed hot on a cool April afternoon, defeating Malone 10-2 in GLIAC play Wednesday from Panther Valley.
ODU, winners of five of its last six games, improved to 20-15 (10-10 GLIAC) and has now scored 31 runs in the last three games. Malone fell to 15-21 (10-11 GLIAC).
Holding a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh, the Panthers broke the game open with three runs, then put it away with a three-run eighth inning.
The Panthers tallied 13 hits, led by senior outfielder Bryan Rudolph (Pickerington, Ohio) who went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Junior Phil Jaskot (Upper Arlington, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and senior Drew Ryan (Newark, Ohio) and junior Matt Jurevicius (Broadview Heights, Ohio) each had two-run singles late in the game.
Senior Alex Borgan (Pickerington, Ohio) matched a season-high with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched, allowing just one earned run. He walked just one batter and improved to 3-3 on the spring. Borgan now ranks sixth in the conference in innings pitched (51.0) and tied for third with 42 punch outs.
Rudolph's fielder's choice grounder in the second gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead after Raschilla started the inning with a double and went to third on a balk. Senior Jossue Delgado (Barinas, Venezuela) then tripled to start the third, and senior Anthony Raschilla (Girard, Ohio) lined a base hit to right field to make it 2-0.
The lead stretched to 4-0 in the fourth. Rudolph and Jaskot singled to start the inning, and freshman Kyle Burson (Brunswick, Ohio) laced a single to left-center to score Rudolph. Sophomore Dylan West (Westerville, Ohio) followed with a base hit to right field to give the Panthers the four-run cushion.
Malone scored a run in the sixth inning and had runners on the corners with two outs, but junior Ryan Bidwell (Syracuse, N.Y.) induced a groundout to end the frame.
Rudolph legged out a double with one out in the seventh, and Jaskot's RBI basehit to right put the Panthers back on top by four runs. Later in the inning, Ryan stepped up with the bases loaded and lined the first pitch he saw into left field to score two runs and make it 7-1.
Jaskot then had an RBI groundout in the eighth and Jurevicius smacked a basehit back up the middle to score two runs and cap the afternoon for the Panthers.
Raschilla finished with two hits and Delgado reached base four times via the triple, a walk and two hit by pitches.
Delgado has now hit in eight straight games, while Burson extended his hitting streak to six consecutive contests.
