WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Ohio Dominican softball team split a pair of games in its second day of the Rebel Spring Games. The Panthers won 5-1 in their first game against Southwest Minnesota State and lost 2-1 in the second game against Northern State.

The Panthers are now 2-9 on the season.

In the first game, ODU used a big first inning, putting up four runs. Junior Rachael Stanzel (Angleton, Texas) led the inning off with an infield single and advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt by junior Alex Cribari (Lyndhurst, Ohio). Sophomore Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio) hit an RBI single to score Stanzel. Junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) singled through the left side of the infield to put runners on first and second. After a double steal by Albanese and Taylor, junior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio) hit an infield single to score Albanese. Sophomore Lizzy Weber (Canton, Ohio) hit a two-out, two-RBI single to right field to score Thomas and Seeds.

The Panthers added a run in the bottom of the fourth after a first career homerun by freshman Sommer Mark (DeLand, Fla.) to left field.

Southwest Minnesota State scored its lone run in the top of the sixth.

Stanzel picked up the win for the Panthers, going five innings with three strikeouts. Offensively, ODU was led by Thomas, who was 2-for-3 from the plate. Weber was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In the second game, there was only a combined nine hits between the two teams, including six strikeouts.

The Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Thomas hit a two-out single up the middle. Northern State evened the score in the third and hit the go ahead run in the seventh to seal the victory.

Cribari, Thomas, and Seeds each had a hit for the Panthers.

Ohio Dominican will resume action on Monday, March 10 when the Panthers play Minnesota State Mankato and Glenville State.
