Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio – In a must win situation, the Ohio Dominican softball team fell by the score of 4-1 to the Wayne State Warriors on Saturday morning in the GLIAC Tournament.
The Panthers end their season with a record of 23-28-1 while the Warriors move to 26-30.
The game was scoreless through three, but in the top of the fourth Wayne State scored a solo run when Amanda Burnard singled up the middle to score Jade McGarr.
The Warriors extended the lead to 2-0 in the fifth after a Panther infield error allowed Logan White to cross home.
In the sixth, the Panthers cut the lead to 2-1 when junior Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, W. Va.) hit a two-out single to left field. Sophomore Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) doubled to deep left field, scoring Jividen from first.
Wayne State added two more runs in the top of the seventh to push the margin to 4-1. Nikki Fulton led off with a double to left field. White singled on a bunt, advancing Fulton to third. With runners on the corners, Stephanie Forman knocked in the first RBI of the inning on a fielder's choice, which advanced White. Emily Bryce batted in the fourth run of the game on a groundout to freshman Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio) who got the out at first.
In the bottom of the seventh, Albanese drew a walk but the Panthers couldn't push her across and fell by the final score of 4-1.
Sophomore Rachel Stanzel (Angleton, Texas) went the distance for ODU. The sophomore surrendered 10 hits and struck out 3. Stanzel also led the Panthers with two hits.
