Box Score 2 DETROIT, Mich. – The Ohio Dominican softball team split with Wayne State on Sunday, April 7 in Detroit, Michigan. It took the Panthers eight innings in game one, but the Black and Gold walked away with the 1-0 victory. In game two, the Warriors silenced the ODU bats, and gained the win by the score of 10-0.
The Panthers now sit at 13-20-1 (9-3 GLIAC) while the Warriors move to 16-14 (7-3).
Game one turned into a pitcher's duel and neither team could get their offense going. The game remained scoreless through seven innings.
In the top of the eight, freshman Elisabeth Weber (Canton, Ohio) led the inning off with a single to right field. She advanced to second on a passed ball. With two outs and Weber on second, freshman Kelsey Albanese connected with a 0-1 pitch and cracked a single to left center, scoring Weber.
Sophomore Rachael Stanzel (Angleton, Texas) went the distance for the Panthers and picked up her ninth win of the season. She pitched her second shutout of the season, allowing no runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
The Warriors picked up their offense in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning on three hits. Wayne State went on to score three more runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Wayne State tacked on one more run in the top of the fourth and three more in the top of the seventh to take the 10-0 victory.
ODU resumes play on Wednesday, April 10 as the Panthers travel to Northeast, Ohio for a makeup nonconference doubleheader against Notre Dame College. The first game is set to start at 3 p.m.
