Weather, Timberwolves Unkind to Baseball in Sunday Finale

Box Score

SENIOR DAY VIDEO  | GAME HIGHLIGHTS

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team let a 6-2 lead slip away under rain-soaked skies Sunday to visiting Northwood, falling 8-7 in GLIAC action from Panther Valley.

With the setback, ODU fell to 20-24 (15-14 GLIAC), while the Timberwolves improved to 16-21 (11-14). The Panthers maintained their position in fourth in the conference tournament chase despite the loss.

Trailing 2-1 in the fourth and with a steady rain starting to fall, ODU's offense kicked into gear. Consecutive walks to Collin Parcher (Napoleon, Ohio) and Jossue Delgado (Barinas, Venezuela) put two runners and Bryan Rudolph (Pickerington, Ohio) singled through the left side to load the bases with one out.

After a strikeout, freshman Jacob Horsley (Thornville, Ohio) singled solidly to left to plate two runs, and Marcus Schluessler (Zanesville, Ohio) followed with an RBI basehit to bring home another.

A walk to Ryan Rovnak (Poland, Ohio) re-loaded the bases, and Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio) hit a grounder to the left side that turned into a two-run single, capping a five-run inning and giving the Panthers a 6-2 lead.

Northwood answered with two runs in the fifth, but reliever Ryan Colegate (Centerville, Ohio) left the bases loaded as he ended the inning with a flyout to left to keep ODU in front.

Sophomore Phil Jaskot (Upper Arlington, Ohio) then hit a sacrifice fly to put ODU on top by a count of 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth.

The score remained that way until the eighth when Northwood scored twice, and the Timberwolves would then bring in two runs with two outs in the ninth to go in front 8-7. ODU went down in order in the bottom half of the inning to snap its five game winning streak.

Northwood pounded out 14 hits in the contest to nine for the Panthers. Horsley went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, Rudolph had a pair of hits and Delgado scored twice to lead the Panthers.

Ohio Dominican plays its final two home contests of the regular season starting at 2 p.m. Thursday when ODU welcomes Walsh to Panther Valley.
