Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team fell to No. 9 Grand Valley on Sunday afternoon by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
With the two losses, the Panthers fell to 18-24-1 (13-7 GLIAC) while the Lakers improved to 30-4 (18-2).
Game one remained scoreless through five innings. Grand Valley struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a Miranda Cleary homerun to left field.
Katie Martin extended the Lakers lead to 6-0 after a grand slam to right field.
Sophomore Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) gave the Panthers their only run, hitting a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh.
Ohio Dominican was held to just three hits, as Lakers's starting pitcher Hannah Santora was overpowering in the circle, needing only 76 pitches with six strikeouts and a complete game.
In game two, Grand Valley pushed a run across the plate in the first inning. Brittany Taylor doubled to center field and advanced to third after a single by Katie Martin. Kayleigh Bertram hit a deep sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Taylor.
After retiring the next five batters, the Lakers tacked on three more runs in the third to give GVSU 4-0 lead.
The Panthers threatened a comeback, loading the bases in the sixth inning, but pitcher Sara Andraski slammed the door by getting the final out of the inning with no damage.
Grand Valley extended its lead to 6-0 after Emily Holt belted a homerun over the left field wall and Taylor tripled to right center, scoring Nellie Kosola, who had singled earlier in the inning.
For Ohio Dominican, Thomas, and sophomores Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio) and Brandis Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) provided the Panthers only hits, all singles.
Ohio Dominican is back in action on Friday, April 26 for a conference doubleheader at Ashland. The first game is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
