Panthers Sweep, Extend Streak to Three

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – On a chilly, but sunny Sunday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican softball team swept the Walsh Cavaliers 7-1 and 4-0.

The Panthers improved to 16-20-1 (11-3 GLIAC) while the Cavaliers moved to 15-14 (6-11)

Game one was scoreless through four innings, but Ohio Dominican opened things up by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth. A leadoff walk by sophomore Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) got it going forODU. Senior Brooke McCartney (Salem, Ohio) reached on an infield error and the Panthers had runners on first and second with no outs. The Cavaliers managed to get the next two outs but freshman Elisabeth Weber (Canton, Ohio) connected with a two-out, two-RBI double to left field. Sophomore Alex Cribari (Lyndhurst, Ohio) tacked on the third run of the inning when she singled home Weber.

Walsh cut the lead down to 3-1 when Fallon Gawry homered to deep left field in the bottom of the fifth.

The Panthers came right back in the top of the sixth with three more runs. Thomas started the inning with a double to center field. Freshman Montana Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) pinch ran for Thomas and scored off a single to left field by sophomore Devan Audette (Bronson, Mich.). Weber collected her third RBI of the game after hitting a single to right field, scoring Audette. Sophomore Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio) singled to left field, scoring Weber and the lead was 6-1.

McCartney batted in the seventh and final run for the Panthers in the top of the seventh when she singled to left field, scoring junior Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, W. Va.).

Sophomore Rachael Stanzel (Angleton, Texas) improved her record to 11-11 on the season after allowing one run on four hits.

Sophomore Brandis Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) picked up her fifth win of the season in game two after tossing a seven inning shutout with four strikeouts.

The Panthers scored three of their four runs in the bottom of the third inning after a two-run single by Jividen to right field. Coach Van signaled for the delayed steal and it worked like a charm as Jividen stole second and Cribari stole home.

McCartney singled to left field scoring Jividen for the fourth run on the game.

Ohio Dominican finishes out their road trip on Wednesday, April 17 when the Panthers travel to the campus of Tiffin to battle the Dragons in a conference doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 3:30 pm.
