Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Ohio Dominican softball team closed out its southern spring break trip with a pair of losses at the hands of Georgia College on Friday, March 8. The Panthers suffered a 5-1 loss in game one and dropped a 4-1 decision in game two.
The Panthers fell to 2-17 on the year while the Bobcats improved to 18-10 on the season.
After three innings of a pitching dual in game one, the Bobcats jumped on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Kelsey Martin started the inning off with a double to left center field. Martin advanced to third after a groundout by Kristen Humphries and Dani Gallucci hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field for the 1-0 lead.
The Panthers responded in the top of the sixth inning after sophomore Alex Cribari (Lyndhurst, Ohio) hit an infield single to the left side. Cribari advanced to third after freshman Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio) singled to right field. Junior Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, W. Va.) knocked in the tieing run on a two-out single to left field.
However, the Bobcats responded with four runs on the bottom of the sixth inning to take a commanding 5-1 lead. The Panthers couldn't respond to the four run deficit, and the Bobcats claimed the victory.
In game two, the Bobcats wasted no time, striking first in the bottom of the first inning after Abi LeRoy singled, scoring Kristen Brooks from third.
Georgia College extended their lead to 4-0 after a big inning in the bottom of the fourth where the Bobcats scored three runs on four hits.
The Panthers gained a run back in the top of the fifth inning when freshman Devan Audette (Bronson, Mich.) singled up the middle. Sophomore Brier Sanner (Hartville, Ohio) walked and the Panthers had runners on first and second with freshman Elisabeth Weber (Canton, Ohio) up. Weber drew a walk and loaded the bases for sophomore Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio). Seeds hit a fly ball to right field and a strong throw home kept freshman Montana Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio), who came in as a pinch runner, at bay. Crabari drew a walk to score Fishel from third but the Bobcat's got out of the jam, and hung onto the 4-1 lead.
Georgia College played solid defense for the remainder of the game, allowing just one hit over two innings to gain the win.
The Panthers will have a week long break to recover and will hit the field on Saturday, March 16 for a nonconference home opener double-header against Madonna. Game one is set for 1 p.m. at Panther Field.
