Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Ohio Dominican softball team dropped a pair of games in a nonconference double-header at Columbus State (Ga.) Thursday, March 7. The Panthers fell to the Cougars 8-0 in game one and suffered a 1-0 loss in game two.
The Panthers now sit at 2-15 on the year while the Cougars move to 16-9.
In game one, the Cougars pounced first. In the bottom of the third inning, Morgan Knight led off with a walk. She advanced to second after Nina Rubio bunted her over. Kori Waugh batted Rubio in with a single to left field for the 1-0 lead. Casey Googe singled through the infield and the Cougars had runners on first and third. Taylor Turner loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Kristen Carr smacked a two-RBI double to left center, scoring Waugh and Googe to increase the lead to 3-0. Columbus State wasn't done as Kodi Ricketson blasted a one out, three-RBI homer to right center field to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cougars tacked on two more runs to extend the lead to 8-0 and that was all they needed as Columbus State reached the run rule.
In game two, the Cougars went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first when Branigan Wix singled to center field. Googe followed with a single to left and Columbus State had runners on first and second. Turner loaded the bases for the Cougars after reaching on an error by the Panther infield. Carr knocked in Wix from third and CSU had runners on second and third. Sophomore Rachael Stanzel (Angleton, Texas) pitched out of the jam, allowing just the one run.
It was a pitcher dual for the rest of the game with the Cougars holding onto their 1-0 lead. Stanzel took the loss for the Panthers, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts.
Sophomore Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio) led the Panthers, going 2-for-3 while senior Brooke McCartney (Salem, Ohio) and freshman Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio) each added a hit.
Ohio Dominican closes out its spring break trip tomorrow, March 8, as the Panthers travel to Milledgeville, Ga. for a nonconference double-header against Georgia College. The first game is set for 3 p.m.
