Box Score 2 SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Ohio Dominican softball team suffered a pair of losses on the first day of their spring break trip at the Mid-South Classic Tournament. The Panthers fell 3-2 to Anderson (S.C.) in game one and suffered a 6-0 decision in the nightcap to Columbus State (GA).
In game one, the Panthers fell behind early, as the Trojans scored runs in the bottom of the first and third to take the 2-0 lead.
Anderson tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fifth to increase their lead to 3-0.
Down by three runs, the Panthers rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning after sophomore Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) singled to center field. Sophomore Devan Audette (Bronson, Mich.) blasted a two-run homer to cut the lead to one, 3-2, but the rally fell short, as the Trojan defense hung on to preserve the win.
Audette was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI for the game while Thomas and junior Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, W. Va.) went 1-for-3.
In game two, the Panthers got off to a rough start as they found themselves down 2-0 after the first inning and could not recover as the Cougars defeated the Panthers by the final score of 6-0.
More details to come when available.
Ohio Dominican returns to the field Saturday, March 2 for day two of the Mid-South Classic Tournament, facing Augusta State in game one at 10 a.m. and Tusculum in game two at 2 p.m.
