COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team (4-3-1; 3-2 GLIAC) continue their four game road trip with a pair of conference matches, traveling to Northwood on Friday, September 28th and Saginaw Valley, Sunday, September 30th.
About the Panthers:
This past weekend the Panthers traveled to northeast Ohio to battle both Malone and Walsh, walking away with a 1-1 record.
On Friday, Sep. 21, the Panthers gave Malone their first conference and overall victory after the Pioneers topped the Panthers 2-1.
The Pioneers scored first off a Sam Tonelli goal, assisted by Rubem Miranda and Kelvin Aquino. After halftime Miranda added another goal to go ahead 2-0 but in the 89th minute, Frazer Fernandes (Gahanna, Ohio) scored on a corner kick by freshman Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) for Ohio Dominican's only score of the game.
In the game against Walsh, the Panthers scored first off a goal from senior Tommy Glenn (Pataskala, Ohio) at the 37:28 mark of the first half. After halftime, the Cavaliers tied the game up when Michael Dukes knocked in a goal at the 88:02 mark.
After a scoreless first overtime, freshman Kevin McMahon (Dublin, Ohio) headed the game winning goal from the right side in the 100th minute from Wahle.
About the Timberwolves:
Northwood (3-2-1; 3-2 GLIAC) is coming off a 4-3 double overtime loss at Notre Dame. The Timberwolves got off to a hot start, nailing two goals in a matter of eight minutes, both scored by freshman Sam Nair.
The lead was in jeopardy as Notre Dame notched two goals before halftime to go in tied 2-2. After the break Notre Dame came out and took the lead in less than eight minutes before the Timberwolves tied it back up 3-3.
The game remained a 3-3 tie until the second overtime, when Notre Dame scored in the 100th minute to seal the victory.
About the Cardinals:
No. 16 Saginaw Valley (6-1-1, 3-1-1 GLIAC) is coming off their first tie of the season to Tiffin by the score of 1-1.
After a scoreless first half the Cardinals came out of the break with a goal after Dylan Knott's header in the 64th minute. Tiffin answered at the 72:04 mark with a goal to force overtime.
Neither team was able to score in overtime, leaving the score knotted at 1-1.
About the Series:
Since 2009, the Panthers and Timberwolves have met a total of six times, with the Panthers leading the series 4-1-1. They last met in GLIAC tournament semifinals in 2011, where the Panthers lost 4-1.
In the last five games between the Panthers and Cardinals, ODU has held the advantage in the series 3-1-1. In the last two games, the two teams have either lost or won in overtime periods. On October 4, 2011, the Panthers dropped a 4-3 double overtime decision at Saginaw. However, five days later, ODU rebounded with a 2-1 double overtime victory on Panther Field.
