Panthers On A Roll Late In The Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio— The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team is coming off of a successful week, winning their last three games and improving to 9-4-1 overall and 7-3 in conference play. This weekend the Panthers have their hands full in a GLIAC matchup against a feisty Lake Erie squad.

About the Panthers:

The Panthers are doing exactly what any team likes to do, peak late in the season. ODU is coming off of a three game win streak, beating GLIAC rivals Ashland and Walsh at home and then going on the road to Urbana to pick up another nonconference win.  With the GLIAC wins the Panthers are now tied for first place with Notre Dame (OH) in the South Division.

Speaking of peaking late in the season, senior Colby Catlett (Hilliard, Ohio) had not scored a goal this season until the matchup against Ashland, where he scored two goals to secure the win against the Eagles. In the next game Catlett had another insurance goal late in the match against Walsh. His performance this past weekend granted him the GLIAC Player of The Week award.

Another notable Panther performance on the defensive end came from the freshman goalkeeper Macklin Robinson (Cincinnati, Ohio) recording 17 saves in the last three games. Robinson improves his record to 5-2-1.

About the Storm:

Although Lake Erie is tied for second to last in the GLIAC overall standings, they are no team that should be overlooked. The Storm can be feisty and have stepped up to the challenge against some of the GLIAC's best soccer programs.

The most illustrious win that the Storm has had this season was last weeks come from behind victory over GLIAC front runner Notre Dame (OH). After being down early to the Falcons, the Strom battled back to score three straight goals making the final score 3-1.

Freshman Robert Vallareli (Chardon, Ohio) started the Storm off with a late first half goal to tie the game at 1-1. The momentum carried into the second half in favor of the Storm as sophomore Stefan Martin (Surrey, England) tallied two more goals to secure the victory.

About the series:

Being conference rivals these two teams have met plenty of times. The most recent time they have met was earlier this fall at Lake Erie in the Panthers third GLIAC matchup of the season. The Panthers controlled most of the match offensively and won the game 2-0.
