About the Panthers:
On a chilly Friday evening, the Panthers topped the visiting Eagles 3-1 on Panther Field.
Senior Drew Edler (Hilliard, Ohio) knocked in his first goal of the season and game after sophomore Frazer Fernandes (Gahanna, Ohio) kicked the ball to the five yard line.
Senior Colby Catlett (Hilliard, Ohio) added another goal at the 26:38 mark to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead before the half when he connected from senior Justin Wheeler (Gahanna, Ohio) to the left side of the goal.
At the 35:47 mark, the Eagles Eric Ashley cut the lead to one after he had an open shot on goal.
Following the break, Catlett added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when he hooked up with sophomore Jakob Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) for his second goal of the game.
The Panthers offense paced the game, outshooting the Eagles 21-10 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman goalie Macklin Robinson (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up his third win this year and recorded two saves.
With the weather still cold and rainy, ODU managed to pull off their second straight win with a 3-1 victory over Walsh on Sunday afternoon.
Szabo kicked off the scoring in the second minute with assists from freshman Caleb Wilson (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and senior Casey Weddle (Cincinnati, Ohio).
It was Szabo's second goal of the season on the first shot of the game for the Panthers.
The Cavaliers tied the game in the 19th minute with a header goal by Jordan Semple off a cross by Brock Sutek.
However, the tie would not stand for long as Wilson scored the Panthers' second goal of the game in the 37th minute with a header off a corner kick from Weddle, giving ODU a 2-1 lead. It was Wilson's first goal of the season.
The Panthers extended their lead to 3-1 in the 83rd minute as senior Catlett stole the ball from the Walsh defender and dribbled down the field before getting past the goal keeper to kick it into the open net.
About the Blue Knights:
In a key matchup between teams fighting for a regional tournament bid, the visiting Mercyhurst University Lakers escaped Urbana University with an important 2-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
Entering the game with identical 7-4-1 records, the teams played to an even draw in the first half. Urbana had several opportunities to break the game open, but Laker keeper Diego Gustin made a couple of fantastic saves on blasts by Tyler Wason, Carl Peers and Evan Burkholder.
With the wind at their backs, the visitors broke the tie just 7 minutes into the second half. Alex Manea passed the ball back to an open Fernando Martinez who blasted it just below the crossbar for the game's first goal. It came on the Lakers' third shot on goal in the game.
Martinez added an insurance goal on a Blue Knight defensive breakdown in the 79th minute. After the UU turnover, Martinez juked the keeper and tapped the ball into the empty net.
About the Series:
These two teams first met in the fall of 2000. Since then, the Panthers have taken a commanding lead in the series, recording a record of 9-1-1. Last year, the Panthers walked away with a 3-0 victory on Panther Field.
