Box Score 2 TIFFIN, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's softball team's offense was kept in check on Thursday at Paradiso Fields in Tiffin as the Dragons swept the Panthers by the finals of 7-2 and 7-0.
With the sweep, the 32nd ranked and South Division leading Dragons improve to 20-7 on the year and 11-1 in the GLIAC, while ODU, losers of five straight, fall to 7-23 and 2-10 in conference action.
A double by Kylee Crislip (Jr./Louisville, OH) and single by Brooke McCartney (So./Salem, OH) gave the Panthers the early 1-0 advantage after the top of the first inning of game one.
However, Dragons' sophomore starting pitcher Amber Young began to get in a groove, allowing just one hit over the final six innings, a Samantha Wolfe (Sr./Columbus, OH) pinch-hit single in the seventh that plated Caitlin Chaney (Jr./Newark, OH) after Chaney reached on a walk.
After just one hit in their first two at-bats, Tiffin collected eight hits over the next four innings, sending runs across in the third through sixth innings, including a four-run fifth to earn the 7-2 victory.
Another dominant pitching performance, this time by freshman Mindy Meredith, kept ODU's bats quiet in game two as she threw a one-hit shutout, while fanning nine and walking none.
Jennifer Baker (Sr./Cortland, OH) broke up Meredith's perfect game bid with a bunt single to the left side of the infield with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Dragons once again scattered their scoring over four innings, including a four-run, three-hit second sandwiched by a run in each of the first and third innings.
The Panthers return home for a four-game weekend against South Division No. 2 Ashland, beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. at Panther Field as part of the 2011 Friends of Jaclyn Week. On Sunday, ODU will recognize its five senior student-athletes in their annual Senior Day doubleheader.
