Pitching Touched Up as Warriors Complete Four-Game Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DETROIT, Michigan – Wayne State continued to swing the hot bats for the second straight day, cranking out a combined 31 hits, as Ohio Dominican's baseball team suffered its second sweep in as many days to the Warriors, falling 15-6 and 15-0 at WSU Baseball Field on Sunday.

After taking the four-game set, the Warriors are now 22-10 on the year and 14-6 in the GLIAC, while the Panthers remain in fourth in the conference at 9-11 and 12-19 overall.

For the third straight game, WSU jumped on the Panthers early, pounding out 13 hits, including three multi-run homeruns, two by Ryan Buter, over the first three innings en route to a 14-4 lead. The Warriors sent an insurance run across in the sixth with double down the left field line.

ODU got on the board with three runs in the second and one in third. JT Feldkamp (Sr./Lorain, OH) led off the second with a hit by pitch and came around to score on freshman Anthony Raschilla's (Girard, OH) second homer of the year to right field. Following a two-out double to right by John Bowron (Jr./Dayton, OH), Nick DiNello (So./Boardman, OH) brought him home with an RBI single to center. In the third, a run scoring fielder's choice by Zack Dascenzo (So./Uniontown, PA) gave the Panthers their fourth score.

After a scoreless fourth and fifth innings, ODU added one run in both the sixth and seventh as Bowron scored Raschilla with an infield single in the top of the sixth and Raschilla then scored junior Evan Shaw (Delaware,OH) with a sacrifice-fly to center in the seventh, but once again could not surmount the early hole.

In game two, Wayne State plated 15 runs for the third time in the series, but only one was needed as Warriors senior starting pitcher Brett Shankin threw a complete-game one-hitter, striking out five and allowing a pair of walks.

Sophomore Andrew Powelson (Tallmadge, OH) broke up the no-hitter with a lead-off single up the middle in the top of the sixth.

The Panthers conclude their six-game road swing this Wednesday, April 20 at 1 p.m. as they travel to Findlay for a two-game conference doubleheader.
