SAVANNAH, Ga. – Ohio Dominican's softball team snapped an eight-game losing skid in a resounding way, cranking out 17 hits in defeating West Liberty (W. Va.) State 18-1 Tuesday at the Boombah SCAD Smash Hit Spring Break Tournament.

The 18 runs were the most the team has scored in a game since defeating Fisher College 24-0 on March 14, 2006, and the 17 hits were the most since ODU tallied 22 against Rio Grande on April 26, 2009.

The Panthers scored five times in the second, with senior Shana Etter (Massillon, Ohio) recording an RBI single and classmate Jennifer Baker (Cortland, Ohio) delivering a two-run hit to help lead the charge. ODU extended the lead to 7-0 in the fourth as junior Erin Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) came in to score on a squeeze bunt by junior Kylee Crislip (Louisville, Ohio), and made it 8-1 on Crislip's sac fly to left in the sixth.

ODU then exploded for 10 runs in the seventh, sending 14 hitters to the plate. Senior Cassandra Weitz (Dayton, Ohio) scored twice and had two RBI, Sutter had run-scoring single, Baker drew a bases-loaded walk, Crislip had a two-run single, freshman Danyelle Delligatta (Sidney, Ohio) had an RBI basehit, and senior Samantha Wolfe (Columbus, Ohio) had an RBI basehit as well.

Sutter tied a school-record with six at bats, becoming the first player since Danielle Larson on May 11, 2006 against Tiffin to reach that mark. She went 2-for-6 and was one of four players to score three runs, joined by Baker (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB), Weitz (1-for-5, 2 RBI) and Etter (3-for-4, 2 RBI). Crislip finished 2-for-3 and drove in five, while freshman Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, W. Va.) went 3-for-5 and scored a run. Delligatta had a pair of hits and scored twice as well.

Etter was the beneficiary of the run support as she started on the rubber, hurling a complete game three-hitter while yielding just the one run, which was unearned. She struck out four and walked just one.

The victory was the second contest of the day for ODU, as the Panthers dropped their first game of the tournament 5-4 to Brewton-Parker (Ga.).

After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, ODU plated a run in the bottom half, with Sutter doubling to left and coming in to score on Crislip's RBI groundout. The Panthers took the lead in the fourth, again sparked by Sutter, who singled and stole second before coming in to score on a single by junior Caitlin Chaney (Newark, Ohio). After a Brooke McCartney (Salem, Ohio) single, Weitz drilled a double that scored both Chaney and McCartney to put the Panthers on top 4-3.

The score remained the same until the top of the seventh, when Brewton-Parker put runners on second and third with one out and both came in to score on a single. ODU went down in order in its half of the seventh.

With the split, Ohio Dominican is now 2-9 on the season. The Panthers conclude play at the tournament Wednesday with a 10 a.m. matchup against Malone and a 2 p.m. game against West Liberty.
