Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – Despite out-hitting Columbus (Ga.) State 8-7, Ohio Dominican's baseball team dropped a 10-5 decision to the host Cougars Thursday in a non-conference matchup in Columbus, Ga.
With the setback, ODU dropped to 2-3 on the season while the CSU improved to 13-6.
Seniors JT Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio) and Felix Brown (Philipsburg, St. Maarten) extended their hitting streaks to three straight games as each finished with a pair of hits, with Brown tallying two RBI. Junior John Bowron (Dayton, Ohio) also had two RBI for the Panthers.
After stranding three runners in the first two innings and falling behind 3-0, ODU rallied with the bases empty and two down in the third. Sophomore Nick DiNello (Boardman, Ohio) and Feldkamp both singled, and Bowron's double down the left field line scored both to make it 3-2. Brown followed with a single to right to even the score at three.
CSU answered, though, with a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, and tacked on another run in the sixth to make it 7-3.
Sophomore Zack Dascenzo (Uniontown, Pa.) belted his first career triple to start the top of the seventh for the Panthers, and came in to score on an RBI groundout by junior Tyler Zaidel (Cincinnati, Ohio) to make it 7-4. But the Cougars again had the answer with their third three-run inning of the contest in the bottom half of the inning to push their lead to 10-4, and the Panthers could manager just one more run on a basehit by Brown to plate Feldkamp in the eighth.
Junior Erik Lamka (Troy, Ohio) started and suffered the loss for ODU, allowing six earned runs in six innings of work.
The Panthers and Cougars complete their two-game series with a 2 p.m. game Friday in Columbus, Ga.
