Panthers Make First Road Trip of 2010 Season

Full Release in PDF
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After two home losses to start the season, Ohio Dominican's football team will hit the road in search of its first victory of the campaign, as the Panthers make their first-ever trip to the state of Michigan to face Wayne State.

ODU allowed 28 unanswered points to Ferris State last week but nearly pulled off the rally in the second half, falling 34-28 at Panther Field. After several first half miscues, the Panthers' special teams came up with several big plays in the second half. ODU forced and recovered fumbles on a punt and kickoff, and Jeremy Scott blocked a punt which Ronnel Spates returned for a touchdown.

That made the score 28-21 late in the third quarter, and after the teams swapped punts, the Bulldogs put another TD on the board with 8:40 left in the contest. But ODU didn't yield, as Mark Nichols scored from two yards out to make it a 34-28 game with 4:15 remaining.

The Panther offense had two more cracks to put points on the board, starting drives on the FSU 25 and on their own 48, but could not capitalize on the good field position as ODU fell to 0-2 on the season.

Mike Noffsinger had 50 yards rushing and a touchdown, Tyler Purcell had six catches for 58 yards and a score and Billy Griffin threw for 193 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the loss. Kevin Guthrie and Jeff White led the defense with 12 tackles each and Manju Jabbie made seven stops as well.
