COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's football team will look to pick up its first win as a member of the GLIAC this weekend as the Panthers play host to Ferris State at noon on Saturday in Panther Field.
The Panthers opened their season with a 28-12 setback against Northwood last week in Columbus. ODU led 12-7 late in the first half, but was hurt by several special teams miscues. The Panthers had two punts blocked and also missed an extra point, while the offense generated just 118 yards in the second half and could not put any points on the board after intermission.
Mike Noffsinger had a big 2010 debut, as he finished with 23 carries for 154 yards, the second-highest single-game total in school history. The junior scored ODU's lone touchdown, as he picked up a punt blocked by teammate Mark Markakis and ran it in from 23 yards to put the Panthers' first points on the board. Tyler Purcell (pictured) led the receiving corps with a game-high six catches for 79 yards.
The defense yielded some yardage but held firm for most of the afternoon against Northwood's wishbone offense. Kevin Guthrie made a career-high 15 tackles, including six solo, to lead the way. Miguel Davis made eight stops, while Eisen Hardy finished with seven tackles and his first career interception. Brice Everett also recorded his first career interception to thwart another NU drive, and Jeff White (seven tackles) forced a fumble at the goal line to prevent another Northwood score.
