Panthers Sweep Point Park in Home Twinbill

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team hosted the Pioneers of Point Park on Sunday afternoon at Panther Field in their first annual 'Teal Game' to raise awareness of Ovarian Cancer. The Panthers held on in game one of the non-conference doubleheader 6-3 and completed the sweep with a 3-1 decision in the nightcap.

ODU (24-21) got the scoring started early in game one, sending across three runners in the first inning before the Pioneers recorded an out. The score would remain 3-0 until Point Park got a run in the top half of the fourth. The Panthers erupted for three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 6-1. Point Park (16-8) rallied with two runs in the top half of the fifth inning, but would not get any closer as ODU hung for the 6-3 final.

Senior Erica Sutter (Mansfield, OH) grabbed the win from the circle allowing three earned runs on seven hits in six innings of work to improve her record to 8-10. Shana Etter (Jr./Massillon, OH) pitched a scoreless seventh for her fourth save of the year.

Leading the way at the plate was Jennifer Baker (Jr./Cortland, OH) going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Erin Sutter (So./Mansfield, OH) collected two hits, scoring twice and Chelsea Archer (So./Thornville, OH) drove in three runs in the victory.

The Panthers got off to another fast start in game two, again plating three runs in the home half of the first inning. The Pioneers sent across one run in the fourth to cut the deficit. Point Park threatened in the top of the sixth when they had two runners in scoring position and one in the seventh, but came away empty as ODU clamped down for the 3-1 win.

Starting pitcher Maria Staton (Jr./New Bremen, OH) nailed her 14th win of the season as she went the distance, allowing one earned run on eight hits while fanning seven.

Samantha Wolfe (Jr./Columbus, OH;pictured) drove in two RBI and had a run scored while Erin Sutter and Archer each collected two hits in the victory.

The Panthers return to the diamond on Thursday, April 22nd as they host former AMC foe, Notre Dame College. First game of the non-conference twinbill with the Falcons is slated for 1 p.m.
