PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team's hopes of a GLIAC South Division title took a heavy blow Sunday afternoon after a 2-1 stunning upset at the hands of Lake Erie.
The Panthers were able to take a one goal lead into the intermission thanks to a
Jennifer Holton (So./Johnstown, OH) score from 10 yards out in the 42nd minute with
Christen Adams (Fr./Sylvania, OH) assisting on the play. After scoring two goals in Friday's win over Ashland, Holton leads the team and is tied for seventh in the conference with seven scores.
Just over 20 minutes into the second half, the Storm scored the equalizer as Misty Porter connected on a loose ball in the box off a Kaitlyn Holland pass.
With 10 minutes remaining in the game, Holland hit a floater from 35 yards deep over the outstretched arms of keeper Aimee Simonet (Sr./New Albany, OH) for the eventual game-winner.
Despite posting a 34-7 shots advantage for the game, including 19-2 on shots on goal, and a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks, ODU could only muster the one score as Storm goalie Megan Baldacci turned aside 17 shots, helping Lake Erie to its first GLIAC win of the season.
The Panthers (9-4-3; 5-4-3 GLIAC) drop to five points behind South Division leader Tiffin and just one point behind second place Findlay with two games remaining. Up next, the women return home to host Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29 at Panther Field.
