ODU Seeks First Road Win of Season as Panthers Take on Old MSFA Foe Tiffin

Full Release in PDF
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After scoring their first victory as a member of the GLIAC, Ohio Dominican's football team will look to make it two in a row as the Panthers make the short road trip to take on former Mid-States Football Association foe Tiffin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Frost-Kalnow Stadium.

The Panthers recorded a 20-10 victory over Findlay last Saturday, largely due to strong efforts from their defense and special teams. Sophomore linebacker Mark Markakis was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, setting a school record with 20 tackles as the Ohio Dominican defense posted its strongest outing of the season, limiting Findlay to 309 yards of total offense and forcing three turnovers. The Panthers finished with 10 tackles for loss, including three by freshman Vincent Vasquez, who finished with 12 stops, and two from Markakis, who also chipped in with a half sack.

Junior Chris Vortkamp booted two field goals, one from 38 yards in the second quarter and one from 37 yards in the fourth that helped put the game away. He also blasted a 67-yard punt, which was the second-longest in school history. Junior Brandon Robinson set up the Panther offense in good field position three times as he totaled 81 yards on his punt returns, including a long of 37.

Junior quarterback Jeremy Fudge directed the offense to touchdown drives in the first and second half, completing 11-of-20 tosses for 111 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 45 yards and a score. Mike Noffsinger had 19 carries for 72 yards, while Robinson had a game-high six catches for 75 yards.

Cris Reisert attempted a school-record 61 passes in the win, completing 37 of them for 366 yards and four TDs. Nathan Hillerich had nine tackles and a sack as ODU built a 30-7 second half lead but had to hold on in the fourth quarter for their third straight win to begin the 2007 season.
