Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. – Ohio Dominican's football team dropped its fourth straight game to begin the 2010 season, falling 45-6 to Michigan Tech in GLIAC action Saturday at Sherman Field.
The Panthers offense was limited to 170 yards and converted just 2-of-10 third downs. Michigan Tech, which improved to 4-0 on the season, finished with 428 yards of offense and converted 8-of-14 third downs.
Jeremy Fudge (Eaton, Ohio), making his first start at quarterback, finished 16 of 26 passing for 130 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Robinson (Eaton, Ohio) caught four passes for 57 yards, and Mark Nichols (Pataskala, Ohio) had 35 yards rushing on nine carries.
Vincent Vasquez (Delray Beach, Florida) continued his strong start to his freshman year, recording a game-high 11 tackles, and Dan Grimsley (Canton, Ohio) made nine stops. Mark Markakis (Steubenville, Ohio) made six tackles, his first career interception and forced a fumble as well to help lead the defense.
The Huskies scored on each of their first three possessions, going 53 yards on 11 plays for the first score and 67 yards on five plays to make it 14-0 less than 10 minutes in. The third drive took up 63 yards and made it 21-0 two and a half minutes into the second quarter.
The Panthers moved into Michigan Tech territory on their ensuing drive. Fudge connected with Tyler Maddox (Lewistown, Ohio) for 10 yards and Robinson (pictured) for 26 yards as ODU reached the Huskie 16 yard line, but a penalty and a failed fourth down attempt ended the drive.
The Huskies scored touchdowns on their first two possessions in the second half and tacked on another touchdown and a field goal in the fourth quarter to make it 45-0. ODU got on the board late as the Panthers covered 60 yards in eight plays, culminating in a 10 yard touchdown toss from Fudge to Mike Noffsinger (West Branch, Michigan).
Ohio Dominican returns to Panther Field for its Homecoming matchup at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 against Hillsdale College.
