COLUMBUS , Ohio – The Ohio Dominican football team's 16-game regular season win streak, dating back to 2006, came to an end on Saturday as Wisconsin-Oshkosh stunned the Panthers 17-16 on a 26-yard field goal with no time on the clock.
After neither team was able to move the ball in their first two possessions of the game ODU wide receiver Brandon Robinson (Eaton, OH) slipped behind the Titans secondary and caught a 53-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Cris Reisert (Cincinnati, OH). Mitch Croy (Ottawa , OH; pictured) added the extra point and the Panthers went up 7-0.
The Ohio Dominican defense continued to hold strong as Wisconsin-Oshkosh's ensuing possession stalled as the Titans turned the ball over on downs. The Panthers would take a 10-0 lead midway through the second quarter on a 20 yard field goal by Croy with 6:25 left before the half. The Titans answered on their next possession to bring the score to 10-7 following a 25-yard touchdown pass from Craig McClelland to Juston Wara. ODU would tack on another field goal just before the half to take a 13-7 halftime lead.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh would cut the lead to one in the third quarter as McClelland again found Wara, this time from nine yards out, with 5:06 remaining in the quarter. With time winding down in the third Croy hit his third field goal of the afternoon to give the Panthers a 16-14 lead.
The fourth quarter would turn into a defensive struggle as neither team could get anything going. With the Panthers trying to answer Wisconsin-Oshkosh's defense stepped up on a fourth and one to force the ODU offense to turn the ball over on downs. With time running down the Titans managed to move the ball into Panther territory to the 18-yard line and set-up the game winning field goal with four seconds left. It looked like ODU would hold on for the win after the defensive line got a hand on the ball to block the kick, but an illegal participation call gave the Titans a second chance that they were able to cash in on to stun the Panthers with no time remaining.
ODU out gained the visitors 367 yards to just 208 for the Titans. Reisert finished the day 35-for-51 for 268 yards and one TD. Oshkosh 's quarterback Craig McClelland finished the day 12-of-16 for 112 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, the Panthers were led by senior corner Michael Wright (Rockville , MD) with nine tackles. Linebacker Austin Addington-Strapp (Gahanna , OH) added eight tackles in the loss.
ODU, now 2-1 overall, returns to action next Saturday, September 27th as they host McKendree University in their annual homecoming game at Panther Field. Kick-off is set for 12:30 p.m.
