Panthers Drop Two on Second Day of Chattanooga Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHATTANOOGA, TN - In their second outing of the season, the Ohio Dominican softball team returned to the Chattanooga Invitational for day two, facing the Montevallo Falcons and Alabama-Huntsville Chargers.

Game 1 vs. University of Montevallo (L, 10-9)
In a hard-fought opening game, the Panthers fell to the (4–1)Montevallo Falcons, 10–9.

Player Highlights 
The contest turned into a slugfest, with three Panthers recording home runs. Shortstop Addie Triplett went 2-for-2 at the plate, including a home run, scoring two runs and driving in three RBIs. Erica Massey was a force offensively, finishing with two doubles on four at-bats, scoring three runs and adding one stolen base. Gina Wilson joined the home run effort, going 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored. Designated hitter Olivia Congleton rounded out the home run group, going 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. 

Freshman Alyvia Lawrentz earned the start in the circle for the Panthers, pitching 2.1 innings while allowing seven hits and seven runs from 14 batters faced. Emma Grau provided relief, throwing 3.2 innings against 14 batters, surrendering four hits and three runs while striking out four. 

Over seven innings, the Panthers totaled nine runs on 10 hits, eight RBIs, and 29 at-bats. 

Inning Breakdown
The Black and Gold came out firing in the first inning, scoring three runs on four hits. Massey jumpstarted the offense with a double to left field. Triplett followed with a single to left-center to score Massey, and Congleton later sent Triplett home with a home run to deep center. The Falcons answered in the bottom of the inning with a home run of their own. 

Ohio Dominican added two more runs in the second inning. Massey delivered another double, allowing Lilah Flores—who reached via walk—to advance. Sacrifice flies from Lilly Irvine and Triplett brought both runners home, pushing the lead to 5–1. The Panthers added another run in the third inning as Wilson scored her first home run as a Panther, extending the lead to 6–1. 

Montevallo responded with a pivotal six-run inning at the bottom of the third, collecting six hits, including two home runs, and leaving no runners on base to take a 7–6 lead. The Falcons added two more runs on two hits in the fourth inning to go ahead 9–6. 

The Panthers mounted another comeback in the sixth inning, scoring two runs to tie the game. Leea Ibarra opened the inning with a single, advanced on a throwing error during a fielder's choice, and later stole home for a run. Avery Mueller followed by singling Massey across the plate to knot the score at 9–9. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Montevallo regained the lead on an RBI single. The Falcons then held off the Panthers in the top of the seventh to secure their fourth win of the season, 10–9. 

Game 2 vs. University of Alabama-Huntsville (L, 5-1) 

Heading into the second game of the day, the Panthers faced the 7–2 Alabama-Huntsville Chargers, falling 5–1 after late-inning runs by UAH. 

Player Highlights
Freshman pitcher Alyvia Lawrentz entered the circle and threw 4.1 innings, allowing four hits and one run. In relief, Emma Grau recorded 2.2 innings, giving up two hits and four runs while striking out three. At the plate, Lilly Irvine went 1-for-2 with a double and scored the Panthers' lone run. Hannah Plymale finished 1-for-2 with a single, while Addie Triplett also recorded a hit. 

Inning Breakdown
The game remained scoreless through three innings until the bottom of the fourth, when ODU broke through as Irvine crossed the plate following a throwing error by UAH. 

The Chargers responded over the next three innings, scoring two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and adding two insurance runs to secure the 5–1 victory. 

Coming Up
The Panthers will wrap up their Chattanooga road trip tomorrow as they face host Lee University at 10 a.m. in their fourth game of the weekend.
