COLUMBUS, Ohio - Hosting the Tiffin Dragons (5-14, 1-11) at home on Thursday (Jan. 29) night, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (13-7, 7-5) men's basketball team got back into the win column to snap their three-game losing streak.
Ohio Dominican went back-and-forth with the visiting Dragons for a 67-59 win after there were 11 first half lead changes and three ties.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Elijah Hinton had a team-high 14 points on five-of-eight shooting and making all four free throw tries. Hinton had four rebounds and one block in the game.
- Caleb Conard led the Panthers with nine boards and two blocks while only scoring four points.
- Derek Goodman and Carson Seemann were tied with ten points scored. Goodman had four field goals, one three pointer, two assists and three steals. Seemann knocked down two threes on a four-of-five shooting night, six rebounds three assists and a trio of steals.
- Terrance Broughton added 11 points with a team-best three three pointers.
- Kenny Scott set career-highs with 11 points scored and four steals while tying his best assist mark of three. He was a perfect six-of-six shooting free throws.
- Zac Kimball had three steals - one of four players with at least three swipes.
- Ohio Dominican shot 44.2% (23-52) from the field, 38.1% (8-21) from three and 68.4% (13-19) from the free throw line, winning the three point and free throw categories.
- Tiffin had a 48.9% (22-45) field goal percentage overall, 25.0% (3-12) from three and 60.0% (12-20) at the stripe.
- ODU forced Tiffin into 19 turnovers with 15 steals - leading to 16 points on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The lead changed hands 11 times in the first eight minutes of the game with the biggest lead being 9-6 in favor of ODU.
- After Tiffin took a 15-14 lead with 13:15 left in the half, ODU capped off an 11-1 run with two Broughton three pointers as the Panthers led 25-16 with 8:35 to go before the half.
- The Dragons made one last run before halftime with a 7-1 rally over five minutes, trimming the lead to 26-23.
- Back-to-back Seemann threes for the Panthers tied the largest lead of the half as they led 32-23 at the break.
- Broughton started the scoring in the second half with a layup off of a steal as the lead grew to 34-23 one minute in.
- An 8-0 Tiffin run closed the gap to three points (34-31) at the under-16 media timeout.
- The Panthers lead remained within two possessions for nearly nine minutes as a Goodman three pointer moved ODU in front 52-45 with five and a half minutes left.
- Ultimately, an 11-3 run for the Panthers put ODU up double-digits - opening a 12-point lead at 60-48 under three minutes.
- Tiffin wittled the lead to as many as five points in the final minute but ODU won the game 67-59.
