COLUMBUS, Ohio - On a chilly Saturday (Jan. 24) afternoon in Columbus, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (12-7, 6-5) men's basketball team battled against the Northwood Timberwolves (12-7, 7-5) at Alumni Hall.
Ohio Dominican dropped their third straight contest, a 78-69 defeat to Northwood after a second half rally by the visitors.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Elijah Hinton earned his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. He was six-of-ten shooting and four-of-six at the free throw line in the game.
- Caleb Conard neared his second double-double of the season with 15 points and nine rebounds to go with two steals, two assists and a pair of blocks. Nine of his points came at the free throw line of 11 tries.
- Derek Goodman had his team-leading 14th game in double figures after 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Of his five field goals, Goodman added two three pointers with a pair of free throws.
- Terrance Broughton dished out six assists, leading the team for the 13th time in the assist category.
- Carson Seemann scored eight points with seven rebounds, two steals and one block.
- Logan Ryan and Zac Kimball led the charge off the bench, combining for 12 points and seven rebounds. Ryan tallied seven points with Kimball adding four of his own points.
- Ohio Dominican finished with the following shot totals: 37.5% (24-64) from the field, 19.0% (4-21) from three and 81.0% (17-21) from the free throw line.
- Northwood had a 47.5% (29-61) field goal percentage overall, 15.8% (3-19) from three and 85.0% (17-20) at the stripe.
- Ohio Dominican had 43 rebounds to 33 for Northwood, including a 14-6 lead in offensive rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was tied twice before the under-16 media timeout (2-2 and 4-4) before ODU scored five straight points for a 9-4 lead.
- Northwood got the lead down to one three different times (9-8, 11-10 and 13-12) but Ohio Dominican followed with a 15-4 run to lead 28-16 with 3:40 left before halftime.
- The Timbies ended the half with a 10-4 run to trail 32-26 at the break.
- After the half, Northwood got within four points a few times, including 37-33 four minutes in.
- ODU went on a 12-0 run, reopening a 45-33 lead with 13:32 to go in the game.
- In four minutes, Northwood answered with an 11-0 run, trimming the ODU lead to 45-44 with 10:30 left.
- Kimball capped a 9-3 rally with a pair of free throws as the Panthers led 54-47 with 8:42 to go.
- Northwood tied the game at 54-54 and 57-57 before the Timberwolves took the lead for the first time at 60-59 with 4:55 remaining.
- Conard took the 61-60 lead right back with free throws but Northwood ended the game with a 18-8 run over the 4:35 to win 78-69.
