COLUMBUS, Ohio - Beginning a three-game homestand on Thursday (Jan. 22) night, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (12-6, 6-4) men's basketball team hosted the Malone Pioneers (12-6, 5-5) inside of Alumni Hall.
The Panthers were defeated 76-66 by the Pioneers in the first home loss of the season.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Derek Goodman came alive in the second half to finish with 18 points and four assists. He was six-of-nine shooting, making all three three point tries and three-of-four at the free throw line.
- Elijah Hinton scored 16 points with five rebounds and two steals. Hinton had six field goals, two three pointers and a pair of free throws.
- Caleb Conard made three triples in an 11-point effort with three rebounds and two assists.
- Terrance Broughton tied Conard with 11 points in the game.
- Carson Seemann had seven boards and six points and the lone block for the Panthers.
- Ohio Dominican was held to 41.8% (23-55) from the field, 33.3% (9-27) from three and 78.6% (11-14) from the free throw line.
- Malone shot 58.0% (29-50) overall, 42.1% (8-19) at three and 71.4% (10-14) at the stripe.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hinton started the scoring with a layup 17 seconds into the game, giving ODU a 2-0 lead.
- Malone followed with an 18-0 run over nearly seven minutes, leading 18-2 with 12:58 left in the first half.
- In the next five minutes, the Panthers rallied back with a 13-5 run that closed the gap to 23-15, forcing a Malone timeout.
- The Pioneers pushed the lead to 32-17 with a 9-2 run, making the Pioneers lead of 15 with 5:31 left before halftime.
- ODU closed the half with a 15-6 spurt, trailing 38-32 at the break.
- The lead for the Pioneers stayed under ten points over the first five minutes, including a 43-37 lead.
- Malone went on an 11-0 run for a 54-37 lead with 11 minutes left.
- ODU chipped away at the lead, getting it down to six points three times in the final two minutes. The Pioneers won 76-66
