COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (11-4, 5-2) men's basketball team hosted the Lake Erie Storm (10-5, 4-3) in a battle of some top-ranked teams in the G-MAC on Saturday (Jan. 10) afternoon.
Ohio Dominican remained a perfect 9-0 at Alumni Hall and kept hold of 2nd place in the G-MAC standings. The win snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Storm against ODU.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Elijah Hinton led the team with 20 points, shooting six-of-11 overall and making all seven free throw tries.
- Derek Goodman neared a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds along with two steals. Goodman made six-of-nine field goals, a trio of three pointers and two free throws.
- Caleb Conard scored 16 points while having six rebounds. He was a perfect six-of-six at the free throw line.
- Carson Seemann was the fourth Panther in double figures, scoring 12 points with six rebounds and four assists. Seemann was four-of-six from the field and the free throw line.
- Logan Ryan had nine points on three treys in 25 minutes off the bench.
- Terrance Broughton gave the Panthers seven points and four assists.
- Zac Kimball added four points, four assists and three rebounds.
- Ohio Dominican shot 50.9% (29-57) from the field, 35.0% (7-20) from three and 84.6% (22-26) from the free throw line.
- Lake Erie, which entered the day as the league's best offense and 6th in Division II at 92.1 PPG, was limited to 69 points - their season low on 33.3% (23-69) shooting, 22.5% (9-40) from deep and 60.9% (14-23).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lake Erie started the scoring with a three pointer and pushed the lead to 8-4 two minutes in, the largest lead of the day for the Storm.
- After Lake Erie split a pair of free throws at the under-16 media timeout for a 9-6 lead, Seemann scored six points of an ODU 10-0 run as they lead 16-9 with 13:08 left.
- The spurt continued over the next five minutes as the run was pushed to 17-3. A Ryan three pointer gave ODU an 23-12 lead with 8:34 left in the half.
- The Storm rattled off nine straight points to slim the Panther lead to 23-21 just two minutes later.
- Lake Erie trailed 27-25 at the under-four media timeout but ODU ended the half with an 8-3 run, leading 35-28 at the halftime break.
- ODU got the lead to double digits after halftime and swapped baskets until a Hinton three pointer gave the Panthers a 54-39 lead with 13:22 left.
- Over four minutes, the Storm outscored ODU 13-5 to get the lead down to 59-52, the closest point of the second half at the midway point.
- Ohio Dominican pulled away over the final nine minutes as they scored 28 points in the final portion to LEC's 17 points. The largest margin for the Panthers was 18 points.
