COLUMBUS, Ohio - Facing off with the Thomas More Saints (8-7, 2-6) for the second time in ten days, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (12-4, 6-2) men's basketball team looked to sweep the Saints for the first time in program history.
Ohio Dominican led for nearly the whole night and swept the Saints 66-55 for their third straight win overall and 11th straight win at home.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Derek Goodman was the leading scorer for the sixth time this season with 16 points. Goodman was six-of-ten shooting with a pair of three pointers and two free throws. He also dished out four assists.
- Elijah Hinton scored 13 points with five rebounds on the night for his tenth double-figure game of the season. He made five of his 11 field goal tries, including one three pointer and two free throws.
- Caleb Conard paced the rebounding category with nine boards to go with six points.
- Terrance Broughton added nine points and five assists in 30 minutes of action.
- Carson Seemann tallied eight points and seven rebounds in the game.
- Logan Ryan made two threes in an eight point effort.
- Ohio Dominican shot 47.1% (24-51) from the field, 31.6% (6-19) from three and 60.0% (12-20) from the free throw line.
- Thomas More was limited to 33.3% (22-66) shooting, 13.0% (3-23) from deep and 50.0% (8-16) at the line.
- The Saints out-rebounded ODU 40-36 with an edge in offensive rebounding 18-8, leading to 20 second chance points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- ODU started the game fast with seven straight points in two minutes, leading 7-0 as Broughton scored the first five on his own.
- Over the next four minutes, Thomas More closed the seven point lead to 10-7 with a 7-3 run.
- The Panthers pushed away the Saints with a 12-2 run in under four minutes to lead 22-9 with 10:24 left in the first half.
- Thomas More scored eight of the next ten points as the Saints closed the lead to 24-17 with 7:32 to go.
- Nine straight Panther points gave ODU an 33-17 lead at the five minute mark of the first half, capped off by a Ryan three.
- The lead remained above double-digits for the rest of the half, despite Thomas More outscoring ODU 11-6. The Panthers led 39-28 at halftime.
- Hinton started the second half with a three pointer but the Saints followed with nine consecutive points, trimming the ODU lead to 42-37 as ODU took a timeout.
- The teams went back-and-forth with baskets until Thomas More kept the game within seven points at the under-12 media timeout at 52-45. Seven straight Panther points gave ODU a 59-45 lead with 7:40 remaining.
- The closest that Thomas More got in the final eight minutes was ten points at 59-49 and 61-51. ODU won the matchup 66-55.
