COLUMBUS OH - The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team hosted the 17th-ranked Ashland Eagles on Tuesday in a key G-MAC matchup at the Panther Stadium in Columbus. Despite a strong defensive effort, the Panthers ultimately fell 2-0 after conceding two second-half goals.
Ashland controlled much of the offensive momentum throughout the match, recording 25 total shots, including 13 on goal. Meanwhile, Ohio Dominican managed just one shot on goal — a testament to Ashland's stifling defense and their 3-0 start in conference play. The Eagles also earned six corner kicks compared to ODU's three.
The match remained relatively clean, with only nine total fouls called — six against Ashland and three against ODU.
Ashland entered the game on a hot streak, having scored 14 goals in their previous two G-MAC contests — a pair of dominant 7-0 wins over Tiffin and Ursuline. ODU goalkeeper Ella Schnitzer put in a strong performance to help keep the scoreline respectable, recording 11 saves and holding the Eagles scoreless through the first half.
Ashland eventually broke through in the second half. Tessa Blain netted the opening goal during a close-range scramble, and Emily Mendrick sealed the win in the 82nd minute with a powerful right-footed strike, assisted by Dani Hicks.
Ohio Dominican now looks ahead to its next match on Saturday, September 27, when they'll host the Findlay Oilers at 4 p.m. at the DeHaven Soccer Complex. The Panthers will be aiming to secure their first win of the season and in G-MAC play.
