INDIANAPOLIS - For the second time in the Division II era, an Ohio Dominican golfer has been named the Great Midwest Men's Golfer of the Year. As announced on Thursday (May 22) afternoon, senior
Yadhu Urs was voted as the Golfer of the Year in addition to his already known All-Conference status.
Urs was not the only Panther honored by the head coaches of the G-MAC for the 2024-25 season, head coach
Chris Deibel was named Coach of the Year while senior
Jeremiah Bane was voted to the All-Conference team as well.
GOLFER OF THE YEAR/ALL-CONFERENCE - YADHU URS
Urs becomes the second Panther to sit atop the G-MAC as Golfer of the Year after Robert Holden earned that honor in 2022. Urs was the lone representative of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships this week in Florida after advancing out of the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional with a fourth place finish. The senior from Castries, Saint Lucia led the Panthers with a scoring average of 72.5 this season over 33 rounds, shooting under par 11 times. Across 13 events this season, Urs finished in the top five four times with eight top tens. His best finish of the season came in fourth place at three different events: Malone-Glenmoor Fall Invitational, the Great Midwest Men's Golf Championship and the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional. With the fourth place finish at the G-MAC Championships, Urs was automatically placed on the All-Conference team for the third straight year.
With a 72.5 season average, Urs surpassed himself for second all-time in season scoring at Ohio Dominican.
COACH OF THE YEAR - CHRIS DEIBEL
Deibel led the Panthers to a number of team bests this season. First, the Panthers advanced to the Great Midwest Championship Medal Match, sweeping Findlay 5-0 for the team's first conference title. With the G-MAC title win, ODU qualified for the NCAA Regional for just the second time in the Division II era (2011-present). At the regional, the Panthers finished ninth of 20 teams and had Urs advance to the National Championship - like the last POY Holden did in 2022.
ALL-CONFERENCE - JEREMIAH BANE
Bane averaged 72.6 per round in 30 rounds (12 events), sitting just behind Urs for the second best mark on the team. He tallied ten rounds under par this season with a low round of 68 at the Findflay Spring Invite. Bane had two finishes in the top five and four top ten finishes with a 2nd place finish at the ODU Pawley's Island Beach Bash and 3rd place at the Tiffin Kyle Ryman Invitational. Bane was second on the team with a .799 winning percentage (654-165). This was Bane's second straight year on the All-Conference team, becoming the third player in the Division II era to have multiple All-Conference seasons.
