Panthers Rally For Series Ending Win, 12-11

XENIA, Ohio - In the long-awaited series finale delayed due to the wet weather in Central Ohio, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (12-21, 6-10 G-MAC) rallied for a 12-11 series ending win over the Cedarville Yellow Jackets (13-19, 6-10 G-MAC) on Monday (April 7).

Just like Friday's doubleheader, the game was played at Athletes in Action Complex in Xenia.

Cedarville struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring one run on a RBI single. Ohio Dominican chased the Cedarville starter Wyatt Fisher after five batters. Five hits and three walks led to six runs. Two runs scored on wild pitches while CJ Dean doubled home a pair of runs. Noah Schacht grounded out and Peter Jelenic capped the scoring with a RBI single. After the damage was done, the Panthers led 6-1.

The Yellow Jackets chipped away with one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and ended up taking a 9-6 lead in the sixth inning with five runs scored.

After two one-out walks in the sixth inning, the Panthers rallied for the lead once again. Jake Scherette tripled home two runs down the right field line. Following a pitching change, Jelenic grounded out as the game was tied 9-9. A throwing error allowed the go-ahead run to score as ODU took a 10-9 lead.

Cedarville forced a 10-10 tie in the eighth inning with back-to-back hits.

For the last time, the Panthers strung together some key hits to lift the team to the lead. Gianni Passarelli walked and Mason Kurtz reached on an fielding error to put two runners on. After a sacrifice bunt and groundout, Jelenic doubled home two runs as ODU snapped the tie and led 12-10.

A single got the Yellow Jackets a run closer but fell 12-11 as ODU won the series.

Five different Panthers had two hit games - Drew Emerson, Dean, Passarelli, Scherette, Jelenic. Passarelli walked three times with Kurtz and Jordan Daniels coaxing two walks each. Kurtz and Passarelli crossed the plate three times as well.

Landon Ringhiser started and allowed four runs over four innings. Jared Hoersten got the win with three runs allowed in 2.2 innings while Andrew Mouch earned his third save of the season with one run allowed in the ninth.

Conference play continues at Walsh this weekend on Saturday (April 12) and Sunday (April 13).
