WILLOUGHBY, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (9-19, 3-9 G-MAC) baseball team completed the series with the Lake Erie Storm (16-11, 8-4 G-MAC) on Saturday (March 29).
Lake Erie swept the twinbill at Andrews Osborne Academy by scores of 9-3 and 7-3.
Game 1 (L, 9-3 in 7 innings)
- Lake Erie drew first in the scoring column with five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
- In the fifth inning, ODU got a run back. Peter Jelenic doubled as the leadoff batter. Flyouts by Jordan Daniels and Jacob Adams hit back-to-back fly balls to plate Jelenic.
- The Storm added two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings, making it 9-1.
- Jelenic capped the scoring in the seventh inning with a two-run home run to right field after Mitch Santino walked. The final score was 9-3.
- Jelenic had two of the three hits for the Panthers - both extra-base hits. Jake Scherette added the third hit.
- Steven Chapman pitched a complete game with nine runs (eight earned) allowed on ten hits. He fanned ten batters for a career-high.
Game 2 (L, 7-3)
- The second inning saw the Storm score their first run on a RBI single. They led 1-0 after two frames.
- The Panthers tied the game in the 3rd inning on a sacrifice fly. A walk by Jelenic and a single by Daniels put runners in scoring position for ODU. Adams added his second RBI sacrifice fly of the day, tying the game at one.
- One inning later, Ohio Dominican took the lead on a RBI double. Gianni Passarelli led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice by Tyler Flint. Santino doubled home Passarelli for a 2-1 Panthers lead.
- In the fifth inning, another run came home for the Panthers. Daniels walked with one out and got to second base on a fly out. CJ Dean lifted a fly ball at home plate. The ball landed in fair territory and Daniels scored from second base.
- Lake Erie answered with three runs in the fifth inning, retaking the 4-3 lead.
- The Storm added three runs in the eighth inning for a 7-3 advantage.
- Two walks and a single in the top of the ninth inning got the tying run to the plate but the Storm closed out a 7-3 win.
- ODU had six hits in the game with a pair of hits coming from Daniels in the leadoff spot. Jelenic walked three times while Passarelli coaxed two walks.
- Jaxson Stried started and tossed three innings of one run ball. He struck out five with four hits allowed. Jeremy Ramirez gave up three runs in 2.1 innings, falling to 1-3 on the year. Gavin Mangus allowed three runs in 1.2 innings while Andrew Mouch finished the game with a scoreless eighth inning.
The Panthers return home to host Ashland on Tuesday (April 1) for a non-conference game at 3:00 PM.
