COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (9-20) baseball team kicked off a busy week in Panther Valley with a non-conference contest against the Ashland Eagles (19-8) on Tuesday (April 1).
The Eagles erupted for seven runs in the last two innings, winning the contest 14-7.
ODU got runs home in the first two innings for a 2-0 lead. In the first inning,
Mitch Santino walked with one out and scored on a RBI double by
Jacob Adams. One inning later, the Panthers walked the bases loaded with one out.
Jordan Daniels singled home a run as the Panthers led 2-0.
Four Ashland runs gave them the 4-2 lead in the third inning. One inning later, the Panthers answered with their own four spot, retaking the 6-4 lead. After two outs, Daniels singled and Santino walked to put two runners on base. Adams doubled home his second run of the day. A passed ball tied the game at four. Later in the inning,
CJ Dean doubled home a pair of runs down the right field line.
A safety squeeze bunt in the fifth inning added a run for the Panthers.
Noah Schacht led off with a walk and
Peter Jelenic was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, leading to a pitching change. Santino laid down a perfect bunt in front of the plate allowing Schacht to score, making it 7-4.
Two Eagle blasts in the sixth inning tied the game at seven. Ashland scored three runs in the eighth and four in the ninth inning, clinching a 14-7 win.
Daniels had two hits with Adams adding a pair of doubles as ODU totaled seven hits. Overall, the Panthers took 11 walks as Santino,
Gianni Passarelli,
Mason Kurtz and Schacht walked twice.
Due to weather, the Cedarville series has been adjusted to start on Wednesday (April 2) with a single 9-inning game. First pitch from the Valley is set for 2 PM with the remainder of the series to be determined bases on weather concerns.
