COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (8-16, 2-6 G-MAC) finally got to play in Panther Valley with a four-game series with the Hillsdale Chargers (10-13, 5-3 G-MAC) over the weekend.
Hillsdale opened the series with a 7-5 win before the Panthers erupted for a 10-4 win in game two on Saturday (March 22). The Chargers swept the Sunday twinbill with scored of 9-5 and 16-0.
Game 1 (L, 7-5)
- Hillsdale started the scoring with three runs in the first inning as ODU answered with two runs in the first as well. After a leadoff single by Drew Emerson and walk from Peter Jelenic, CJ Dean cut the lead to 3-2 with a two-run double down the left field line.
- One inning later, Hillsdale added a run for a 4-2 lead.
- In the bottom of the third inning, the Panthers used three runs to take the lead for the first time. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Panthers. Jordan Daniels singled home a pair of runs and a passed ball put ODU ahead 5-4.
- Three runs in the sixth inning allowed Hillsdale to take back a 7-5 lead. The Chargers took the series opener with a 7-5 win.
- Ohio Dominican had eight hits with Jacob Adams having two hits. Six others had a hit each in the series lidlifter.
- Trayce Mercer started the series with a 4.2 inning outing, allowing four runs. Jaxson Stried pitched four innings, taking the loss with three runs allowed. Gavin Mangus got the final out of the contest.
Game 2 (W, 10-4 in 7 innings)
- Hillsdale hit a solo home run in the first inning, scoring first and leading 1-0.
- Three runs scored in the bottom of the first inning for ODU on one hit. Two walks and a hit batter got the bases loaded. Gianni Passarelli doubled home a pair of runs and Jelenic added a sacrifice fly for a 3-1 Panthers lead.
- The Chargers made it a 3-2 game in the second but a six-run frame blew the game wide open. After loading the bases with two walks and a single, Passarelli cleared the bags with a three-run double. Two more base runners re-loaded the bases with two outs. Sam Battles singled home a pair and Steven Chapman capped the inning with a RBI single. It was 9-2 ODU after two innings.
- In the third inning, Passarelli went deep to left center field with a solo shot, making it 10-2.
- The Chargers closed the scoring with two runs in the fourth inning as the score ended 10-4.
- Passarelli plated six runs on three extra-base hits, tying his season-best in RBI. Battles had two hits as Daniels and Chapman had the other hits for ODU.
- Landon Ringhiser tossed five innings with four runs given up, getting the win (2-3). Andrew Mouch closed the game with two scoreless frames.
Game 3 (L, 9-5 in 8 innings)
- Both teams scored in the first inning, keeping the game tied at one. ODU tied the game on a double by Adams and an error that allowed the run to score.
- Three Panther errors led to a second inning run for the Chargers as they lead 2-1.
- The game remained 2-1 until the seventh inning when Hillsdale added a run for a 3-1 advantage.
- After two walks in the bottom of the seventh inning, Daniels doubled home two runs to tie the game and force extra innings.
- Hillsdale tallied six runs in the top of the eighth inning, leading 9-3.
- Ohio Dominican scored twice in the bottom of the eighth while getting the tying run at the plate. Noah Schacht doubled home a run with Jelenic contributing a RBI single. Hillsdale won Sunday's opener 9-5.
- Jelenic had two hits in the nine-spot as ODU tallied six hits in the game.
- Chapman made the start and limited Hillsdale to two runs (one earned) in six innings with four walks and five strikeouts. Mangus followed and allowed four runs (two earned) in 1.1 innings. Jared Hoersten finished with three runs allowed (two earned) in two thirds of an inning.
Game 4 (L, 16-0 in 7 innings)
- Hillsdale scored four runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning, leading 9-0 after the first two frames.
- A seven-run sixth inning put the Chargers ahead 16-0.
- Dean and Jelenic had the lone hits for the Panthers.
- Chase Hunt and Garrett Roach pitched one inning each as Hunt got the loss (0-5). Jeremy Ramirez scattered some traffic in two scoreless innings. Chris Bartholomew followed with a blank inning. Tyler Von Bargen and Sammy Miller combined for seven runs allowed in two innings.
Ohio Dominican is heading to Eastlake, Ohio next week for a series with the Lake Erie Storm.
