FLORIDA -To conclude their spring break trip in Florida at the 2025 Spring Games, the Ohio Dominican Panthers took on Slippery Rock and Wayne State (Neb.). The Panthers claimed victory in their opening game, dominating Slippery Rock 11-2 in six innings. However, in their final matchup, they were defeated by the Wildcats, 4-1.Â
Game One Against Slippery Rock (W, 11-2)
Freshman Emma Grau took the mound for Ohio Dominican, pitching all six innings while allowing just two hits, two runs, and two walks against 20 batters.Â
Slippery Rock struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Alexsa Hurd hit a home run to left center, driving in Alyssa Sheely for a two-run shot. However, the Panthers quickly responded in the top of the third, as Olivia Congleton reached base on an error, allowing Erica Massey to score and cut the deficit to 2-1.Â
Ohio Dominican tied things up in the fourth when senior Kaleigh Golden doubled to left center, bringing in Hannah Plymale for an RBI. The momentum carried into the fifth inning, where the Panthers added two more runs—Olivia Congleton's double to center field drove in Liana Morreale, followed by Kendrick Sterling crossing the plate thanks to Avery Mueller's sacrifice fly.Â
The Panthers broke the game wide open in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs. The rally started when Sterling walked, allowing Golden to cross home plate. Moments later, Erica Massey scored after Congleton reached base on another error.Â
Freshman Avery Mueller kept the offense rolling with an RBI single to left center, bringing home Morreale and extending the lead to 7-2. The final four runs came from an Emily Holland RBI, Saadie Maysonet reaching on an error that brought in another run, and Leea Ibarra's double to right center, which sent Mueller and Maysonet home.Â
With this dominant performance, Ohio Dominican secured their seventh win of the season and their third in Florida. They finished the game with 11 runs on nine hits and 11 RBIs. Â
Game Two Against Wayne State College (L, 4-1)
In their second and final game of the trip, Ohio Dominican fell to Wayne State College, 4-1. Junior Marlee Jacobs started on the mound, pitching five innings while allowing five hits, four runs, and five walks. Amelia Spidell took over in relief, throwing two innings and giving up three hits, no runs, and one walk.Â
The Panthers' lone run came in the second inning when catcher Olivia Congleton launched a home run to left-center, giving her team a brief 1-0 lead.Â
Wayne State responded in the third inning when Emilee Marth's walk eventually led to her scoring and tying the game. The Wildcats added two more runs—one from Kennadi Borngrebe's RBI single to left field that brought Jordyn Klein home, and another from Hayley Murphy's sacrifice fly, extending their lead to 3-1.Â
In the fifth inning, Wayne State secured an insurance run as Marth singled to center for an RBI, solidifying a 4-1 advantage and securing their 15th win of the season.Â
Ohio Dominican wrapped up the game with four hits and one run. Kaleigh Golden, Olivia Congleton, Kendrick Sterling, and Gina Wilson each contributed hits, with Congleton's solo homer serving as the Panthers' only RBI.Â
The Panthers concluded their trip with a 3-8 record, bringing their overall season standing to 7-13. They now prepare to return home to Columbus, where they will host Gannon and Grand Valley State over the weekend.Â
