Panthers Clinch Sweep Against Knights in Home Opener

Columbus, OH - The Ohio Dominican softball team played their home opener on Panther Field today, facing off against the Gannon Knights in a doubleheader. The Panthers secured a dominant sweep, triumphing 1-0 in the first game and 8-0 in the second, which concluded in five innings.

Game One (W, 1-0)
In the opener, junior pitcher Marlee Jacobs took the mound, delivering a stellar performance by pitching all seven innings. She allowed just three hits, no runs, and issued only one walk.

The game's sole run came in the bottom of the fifth. Avery Mueller singled up the middle, followed by Kaleigh Golden's infield single. Liana Morreale then delivered an RBI single to shortstop, enabling Mueller to score and sealing the 1-0 victory.

The game featured competitive play from both sides. Ohio Dominican finished with six hits, one run, and one RBI. The hits came from Kaleigh Golden, two from Liana Morreale, and one each from Olivia Congleton, Saadie Maysonet, and Avery Mueller.

Game Two (W, 8-0 in 5 innings)
In the second game, freshman Ameila Spidell took the mound, pitching four innings while allowing just two hits, one walk, and striking out eight for her third win of the season. Freshman Emma Grau pitched the fifth inning, allowing one hit and one walk to close out the game.

Ohio Dominican's offense ignited in the bottom of the second inning. Olivia Congleton scored when Saadie Maysonet reached base on a fielding error. Maysonet then crossed the plate following a single to left field by Avery Mueller.

The third inning saw three additional runs. Kaleigh Golden scored due to a Gannon error, followed by Erica Massey capitalizing on another error. Liana Morreale scored the final run of the inning on a fielder's choice.

In the fourth, the Panthers secured three more insurance runs, triggering the run-rule. Golden and Mueller scored when Erica Massey reached base on an error. Liana Morreale capped the scoring with a double to left field, bringing in Massey as an unearned run.

The Panthers now hold a 9-13 record and are set for a doubleheader against Grand Valley State tomorrow at 1 PM and 3 PM on Panther Field in Columbus.
